19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev won his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult year, managing just one win at the big events and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks the player's initial trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface after that period of the previous year.

Success also means Medvedev has secured 21 championships at twenty-one various tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters together, so to secure a title is really nice," commented ranked player the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his previous six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had led commentators to doubt if his capacity to perform at the highest level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to come to the net and compete assertively, backed up by an better serve.

He recovered from a deficit in the first set against the challenging opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five games to take the lead.

Both players swapped break points in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, took control to create a third set.

The opponent rescued four initial opportunities in a close third set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
