Disturbing Recording Captures Point Law Enforcement Suffer Blade Attacks in Ambush
A senior officer who jumped to the aid of a fellow officer that got attacked by a knife attacker received the King's Commendation for Courage.
Sergeant Tim Ansell fought with 27-year-old Jacob Brown following he pressed a weapon to the throat of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their partner, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were conversing to a driver subsequent to a traffic accident in the area in mid-2023.
Brown stabbed and slashed both Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a Taser.
"Policeman stabbed," the constable was heard to say over his radio.
Bodyworn and dashboard camera footage released by the agency showed Brown, wearing in black with a hood up, rush to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a knife pointed forward.
He ran into the officer who stumbled and went down to the street, after which Sgt Ansell intervened and struggled to restrain him to the floor despite being multiple times hit with the blade.
PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and waited for a safe opportunity, bringing the fight to an finish.
Sgt Ansell stated audibly: "Can I get something on my throat now, I'm bleeding in the throat."
Sergeant Ansell sustained multiple lacerations to his neck and more injuries to his arms and body, while Sgt Foster received slash wounds.
Officials reported Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to stem his fellow officer's hemorrhaging before emergency responders came.
This most recent honor arrives after the three officers were granted internal Bravery Awards in October 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the area Police Federation in spring 2024.
They further earned a Area Valor Recognition in July 2024.
"The actions of the entire team eventually saved themselves and meant no civilians experienced any injuries."
Brown was sentenced to an secure medical confinement in spring 2024, per authorities.
