Novak Djokovic Delivers Warning to Jannik Sinner: Suspension Will Follow Him Like a "Cloud"

Novak Djokovic has cautioned Jannik Sinner that his three-month doping suspension will persist over his career like a "cloud" – while also questioning the scheduling of the penalty in the previous season.

Details of the Suspension

Sinner completed a three-month suspension in early 2025 after the global anti-doping body approved his account that a prohibited performance-enhancing substance, clostebol, had entered his system accidentally.

"This shadow will trail him just as the Covid controversy will follow me, for the rest of his, or my career," Djokovic stated in a discussion on Piers Morgan: Uncensored.

"It is a situation where, it was so major, and when that happens, with time it may lessen, but I believe it won't fully vanish. There will inevitably exist a specific segment of individuals that will continually reference the incident."

The Champion's Viewpoint

The Serbian player stated that Sinner, his frequent training companion, "didn't do it on purpose", but he proceeded to question how the player arranged to serve his time without sitting out any major tournaments.

"The absence of openness, the irregularity, the convenient timing of the suspension coming between the slams, so he doesn't miss out the others – it's just it was very, very odd," he further commented.

Broader Tennis Community Response

"I am dissatisfied with how the case was being handled and it was evident numerous fellow athletes, across both tours, who had comparable circumstances coming out in the media and complaining that it was a preferable treatment."
