Thomas Tuchel Questions Home Fan Atmosphere Following Dominant Win Over Wales.
The England head coach shared his sadness that the England team did not get greater encouragement from the Wembley fans during their commanding triumph over Wales on Thursday evening.
The manager was satisfied to see his side showcase their strong performance, with strikes from Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the opening quarter settling the match. But, he was not content with the mood at the iconic venue.
“We had limited sessions to prepare against a well-trained team and we performed excellently,” the coach remarked. “We could have been five goals ahead at half-time. We missed the additional ones. The stadium was silent. There was no support back from the crowd. Our team gave their all to win.”
“How much more can you provide in 20 minutes? We prevented them get away. If you hear just the Welsh supporters for 30 minutes, it’s sad because the team deserved better encouragement today.”
“I stand by this statement. We cannot do more than being 3-0 in a derby. I would have wished for a bit more support in phases where it gets difficult.”
“After halftime, to support us, there was a bit too much backing for the opposition. It could have helped us to regain energy, but that’s the way it went and that is it.”
Squad Decisions Vindicated by Display
Apart from risking a fight with fans, Tuchel also created controversy by omitting Jude Bellingham and Foden from his squad. However the choice was validated by Rogers excelling in the No 10 position and netting his first international goal.
“He is what he is,” Tuchel noted. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is fighting for his position.”
Wales Manager Hopes for Lessons from Defeat
The Wales manager expressed hope that Wales, who host Belgium in a key qualifying match on next week, learn from their poor first-half display.
“This is why I scheduled this match,” Bellamy stated. “I need to see our standing. What are our ambitions? Who do we want to be? This performance gives me drive.”
