Trey Yesavage turned in a legendary performance and Davis Schneider launched a home run on the game's initial offering as the Blue Jays topped the Dodgers 6–1 on Wednesday evening, needing just one more triumph of their first World Series championship since the 1993 season.

Yesavage's Historic Outing

The young Yesavage, who only reached the big leagues in September, struck out 12 without issuing a walk – setting a new World Series record. The rookie right-hander gave up only a single run on three hits in seven innings. His year commenced in the low minors with minimal fanfare, but has now earned two starting wins in the series in this best-of-seven series.

A Quick Start for Toronto

Toronto’s hitters gave him breathing room almost immediately. On the initial throw, Schneider turned on a 97mph fastball and homered to left field. Just moments later, Vladimir Guerrero Jr added a second home run to almost the exact same place. It marked the first time in World Series history that the game began with two straight homers, stunning the crowd before most had taken their places.

Yesavage Takes Control

Yesavage then went to work. He fanned five in a row between the early frames, setting a rookie record before the streak was snapped by Kiké Hernández with a solo shot in the bottom of the third to make it two to one. That was as close as Los Angeles would get.

Extending the Lead

In the fourth inning, Daulton Varsho smacked a triple to right field after a defensive mistake, and Clement delivered a sacrifice fly to bring him home for a three to one lead. The Los Angeles offense continued to sputter from there. After a six-run output in an 18-inning game, they’ve produced just four runs in their last 29 innings.

Late Inning Insurance

The Dodgers starter persisted for over six frames but exited in the seventh after the bases became full. Both runners he left behind came around to score – thanks to a errant throw and the other on a run-scoring hit – to extend the lead to 5–1. A single in the eighth provided the final margin.

Relievers Seal the Deal

Yesavage exited to a standing ovation from the Blue Jays supporters, and the pen closed it out. The bullpen arms each worked a scoreless inning to close it out, fanning three batters collectively while protecting the rookie's gem.

Offensive Woes Continue

The Dodgers, who adjusted their lineup in hopes of igniting the offense, again found little traction. Their key batter went hitless in four at-bats and is now hitless in seven at-bats since reaching base a World Series-record nine times in the third game.

On the Verge of a Championship

Now leading the series three games to two, Toronto head back to their home ballpark with two opportunities to win it all. The sixth game is set for Friday at Toronto's ballpark.
